THE BOOKSTORE ORIGIN
Many if us have the dream of running a bookstore. Great place to exchange ideas and talk with kindred spirits. As a writer, I find a certain easy solution to my less ambitious moments to see myself in a bookstore handing them a book and saying "Here. Look at this. It's all here." This is born of a considerable respect for a few select authors. I can emulate them but in my more lazy moments I just want to hand them the real work. Lazy and respectful. Stocking practical and transformative books is a vision I had in the 1980s, but I never acquired the $30,000 required to do it at the time. So I added several editions to my private library for sharing. A little at a time is doable. I achieved some of my goal when reducing 10,000 books on hand down to a mere 1,000. Met and shared with some fine people.
My lazy but respectful nature means I'm promoting extraordinary work by others here at Substack today. Mitch Horowitz has elucidated a mystic era (or two) with a genius for chronicalling and understanding a genre while creating his own contribution wihin that culture. Things I wanted to say, but he says it better. And then there is the erudite evolving compendiums of Lennart Svensson. Highly recommended
A few words about Horowitz :
I told one of my experiences in New Thought in a DM to Mitch Horowitz. He was very supportive because he loves his work. So do I. The story I told was about seeing The Ralston Society as the publisher of a book at a yard sale for $1. I know a first edition of Think and Grow Rich when I see one. Treasured the book for a decade then sold it for $2,000 to make my point about having a Definite Chief Aim.
Now I'm reading another book in Horowitz's series on New Thought. The man lives his message. He is right about getting back to the insight of the pioneers. Claude M. Bristol, Ernest Holmes, Neville Goddard and others. One of my favorite 'coincidental' books is "Secret of the Ages" by Robert Collier. He was the nephew of Peter Fenelon Collier, founder of Collier's Weekly. The legacy of something magical is how Collier's magazine became a pioneer in the subscription concept because Peter Collier's boss would not utilize his idea. So Collier started this own business. Family life-force can cross generations into many domains.
Lest you think I've abandoned my esoteric ways, take a look at my Gumroad conceptualization of Ancient Ways to New Thought and the evolving trajectory of mystic ancestors toward today. https://alankw.gumroad.com/l/vbaGs?layout=profile
In fact, watch for Horowitz's publication of "Practical Magick : Ancient Traditions and Modern Practice” in 2024.
A few words about Lennart Svensson: My review of "Actionism : How to be a Responsible Man."
Svensson's background is erudite and mystical. Yet there is military and practical lessons in his work as well. If you aren't familiar with all of his sources and references (and who could be?) I'll bet there are a large number of topics where you are already your own practicing expert. Men who want to be men are generally well-read and practical. Lennart Svensson shows you respect for what you already know. He only shares some guidelines of use to him in his quest. Nihilism and established negativity as a norm doesn’t sit well with his worldview. Convincing others to seek their better Selves is something he does well. He knows change comes from changing one's own focus.
I can't do justice to such an elegant book by a prolific author. I want to quickly recommend that you try it yourself and leave you with some thoughts.
Lennart Svensson books I have read include Ernst Junger: A Profile, Borderline, and Actionism. There will be more. The time is here for such an informed ontology that celebrates history as a trajectory toward an heroic future. Those are my words of praising review but Svensson would say it better. You will find your own best thoughts and study within the pages of his works. Svensson acknowledges your own value and recognizes your enthusiasm. Whatever your field, chances are that Lennart gives you credit. It seems that the encyclopedic esotericism of "Borderline" is given practical expression in "Actionism."
My thought and appropriate action on a day of reading Actionism : The peak media presence of political correctness will decline in the inevitable rising of Substance over slogan. The sophistry of hip nihilism will give way to the actions of Knowing. Toward the imaginative manifestation of the subtle over materialism. Kali Yuga gives way to the Sat Yuga.
Passive nihilist Bolshevism will disappear when the purpose of our heritage makes a magisterial renewal.
Sevennson's newest book is "Astral War" and I highly recommend it as an evolving work of his eclectic Comprehension.
Stay Cosmic,
Alan
